the blessing of a copier

We just received a great gift yesterday from my best friend Zach’s old company. They were closing down some offices and moving their employees into telecommuting positions and had a copier to give away. We just so happened to be the beneficiaries of this free gift. How cool. So now we have a brand new (at least to us) copier and a few reams of paper that came included - bonus!

But the story behind getting the copier is worth sharing…

Zach found out the copier was available and had a few more things to pick up with a couch and loveseat he found on freecycle so we thought we would make an afternoon of it and rent a truck from UHaul that had one of those convenient ramps so we wouldn’t break our backs loading and unloading.

(start rant:: Since when did I get concerned with hurting my back? How old am I getting that I actually consider that when moving something now? Wow. Seriously? Next thing I know my hair is going to start going grenevermind. ::end rant)

So we get to Zach’s old office with the UHaul and after some painstaking work we get the copier broken down into a few pieces so we can move it out of the office, down the elevator, and up the ramp to the UHaul. But wait a second… We get out to the UHaul and Zach has managed to rent a truck without a back loading ramp! No kidding. So with all that said and done we have to haul this behemoth (now known as Bob) up into the truck that has a bed at least 5 feet off the ground.

Well, as we are lifting the copier into the truck I hear a rrrrriiiipppp! across my butt. Yep, my pants ripped. And not just a little. No, this was a nice big open sesame kind of hole in my jeans. So I start cracking up and barely manage to get the copier into the truck. Now I have to go back into the office to get the rest of the stuff we left behind with a gaping hole revealing my brand new jockey’s (thank God they were brand new!) to the office.  It got even better when we went to some stranger’s house we were picking the couch up from with a huge tear in my butt. I mostly tried to keep my back to the wall in the house but that only lasted until I had to bend over to pick up my end of the couch and… bottoms up. Oh well, such is life.

So with all that said and done I thought I would leave you with a few pictures of our new (old) copier and something else to remember the story by. Enjoy!
