day one of ReThreads

picnik-collage23

Hey Red Door, Tuesday went great.  There were literally heeps of clothing and we busted through it.  Thank you for all who helped.  We got completely through the first round of sorting.  If you wanted to help out with this sorting and were unable to, don’t you worry yourselves.  You can join us in the next sort Saturday July 10, 2010 from 10-3. If you want to get on board let me know at sarah@iamreddoor.org or just comment on the blog.

ReThreads 101

Hey Guys this is Sarah, I just wanted to let you in on ReThreads…ReThreads is a new free store coming to serve the Fairfield Community.  It’s purpose is to simply provide quality free shoes and clothing to those forgotten in our city. Fairfield is in desperate need of a place where the poor and forgotten of our city can come for free clothing they can be proud to wear…and we want to do this together.  For the month of June Red Door will be participating in a clothing drive. We will be collecting quality gently used clothing and shoes.  There is a special need for brand spankin new undies and socks.  No one wants your used under garments…that’s just gross.

The Grand Opening is August 14, 2010. Each time we open it is a one day shopping experience for our community.  We would love for you to join us in making this happen.

Here’s how you can get the clothes to us…

  • drop off at any Red Door Gathering or Core Team Meeting
  • drop off at any Fairfield schools
  • send in via snail mail at P.O. Box 498112, Cincinnati, Ohio 45249

Here’s how you can get involved…

  • Help us sort on either June 29th or July 10th
  • Help us with the Grand Opening August 14th

If you have any questions about getting the clothes to us or getting involved you can shoot me an email at sarah@iamreddoor.org.

mark & michelle

Mark and Michelle Tiderman are an awesome couple with a HUGE heart for God and His Kingdom. It has been a joy to get to know them both as a couple. This past weekend Mark led worship for our first Prayer Gathering at our new location - The Underground. Mark did an incredible job leading our Core Team through worship, prayer, and reading Scripture. It was a joy to serve alongside of him and I am looking forward to more days ahead working with Mark both as a leader and a friend. This week I wanted to take a little bit of time and introduce everyone to this amazing couple…

love covers (the sequel)

I am meeting today with an individual who is looking to help us expand and develop Love Covers in a bigger way in Cincinnati. Pray for us as we discuss ways to partner with knitting groups in the Cincinnati area who can contribute time and yarn to knit scarves we can hand out in Downtown and Greater Cincinnati. We also need to develop collection points where scarves can be dropped off each winter. I am excited to see this expand and look forward to the day when every homeless person in Cincinnati has a handmade scarf reminding them they are loved more than they know!

ee-taow!

Once you get past the first few minutes of cheeseball (and the tribute to the glorious 90’s music video) the video is amazing, capturing one of the greatest mission stories of our time.

the world’s unreached

There are still over 1500 unengaged, unreached people groups in the world for the Gospel of Jesus Christ. 639 of those people groups have populations over 100,000. Over at finishingthetask.com they have listed these people groups along with statistics of just how unreached they are. Also, check out The Joshua Project which is seeking to bring some clarity and definition to the unfinished task.

the heart of mission

Missions is not the ultimate goal of the Church. Worship is. Missions exists because worship doesn’t. Worship is ultimate, not missions, because God is ultimate, not man. When this age is over, and the countless millions of the redeemed fall on their faces before the throne of God, missions will be no more. It is a temporary necessity. But worship abides forever.

Worship, therefore, is the fuel and goal of missions. It’s the goal of missions because in missions we simply aim to bring the nations into the white hot enjoyment of God’s glory. The goal of missions is the gladness of the peoples in the greatness of God. “The Lord reigns; let the earth rejoice; let the many coastlands be glad!” (Ps 97:1). “Let the peoples praise thee, O God; let all the peoples praise thee! Let the nations be glad and sing for joy!” (Ps 67:3-4).

But worship is also the fuel of missions. Passion for God in worship precedes the offer of God in preaching. You can’t commend what you don’t cherish. Missionaries will never call out, “Let the nations be glad!” who cannot say from the heart, “I rejoice in the Lord…I will be glad and exult in thee, I will sing praise to thy name, O Most High” (Ps 104:34, 9:2). Missions begins and ends in worship.”
