The Mission.

What started as a small group of people in the Cincinnati area asking a growing question, “What could church look like if it was more about BEING the church than GOING to church?”, has now grown into a full on church plant with a singular mission: to spend our lives bringing heaven to earth.

We get one shot at this life, one opportunity to spend it on something. We want to spend our lives seeing the Kingdom advance into this world, in us, and through us. Discipleship becomes nothing less than our entire life given to living out the Kingdom… for God. for Neighbors. for our World.

The Name.

Red doors have a deep and rich history in the life of the church. If you look around you will start to see that many church buildings, especially older ones, have red doors. If you start to look around your neighborhood even you will start to notice that red doors are scattered everywhere. But what does a red door mean?

In various places around the world, a red door signals a place of refuge for the lost or stranded. It is a sign to any travelers that here is a safe place, an open place, a place full of hospitality. So no matter how lost, how tired, how stranded you are… look for a red door and you will find hope. But it is the roots of the red door that explains how this actually came to be.

It all goes back to the Book of Exodus…
Moses has told Pharaoh to let the Israelites go free nine times, and nine times Pharaoh refuses despite the plagues leveled against his people. On this tenth time God tells Moses to prepare the Israelites for the next plague because He is going to send the death angel to kill every first born male son living in Egypt. In order for the Israelites to be spared from the death of their own first born, they are told to put the blood of a perfect lamb on the doorposts of their homes as a sign that this is a place of refuge. When God arrives and judges Egypt he passes over the homes of the Israelites whose doors are covered by the blood of the lamb and those inside are kept safe.

The church, remembering this story and the ultimate realization of this story in the death of Christ, began painting their doors red. Legend even tells us the Wittenberg Church doors Martin Luther nailed his 95 Theses into, effectively launching the Protestant Reformation were red doors. For us the name of Red Door Church is a way of asking, “How are we creating red door environments in our homes, in our workplaces, and even in our city?” Do people view our homes in the neighborhood as a place of refuge? Do people at our workplaces know our office, cubicles, and stations are a place of hope? How can we create places in our city that serve as Red Door environments where safety, hope, and restoration can be found? These are the places where Jesus can be found. These are the places of light and beauty only found in salvation.
