BIG GOD. BIG NEWS.
Wow. The past few months have been a blur and the past two weeks… where did they go? So much has happened and I am excited to share with you what has been going on. But first a little back story…
When we were in Pittsburgh looking to move back to Ohio and plant a church, we were in need of a place to meet and begin gathering people together once a month just to begin the conversation. We knew it would be awhile before we could fully move back to Ohio, but we wanted and sensed God already moving in the lives of our friends and family. But how do you rent a building in Cincinnati when you live in Pittsburgh and have zero dollars? In a way only God works we ended up in the living room of a pastor IN PITTSBURGH whose best friend runs one of the buildings we thought it would be awesome to rent IN OHIO. He calls him up from the living room that night and secures the building for us rent free for six months! Coincidence? Nope. There are no coincidences. Only a BIG God with BIG plans.
So after those six months we are able to move back to Ohio and begin making plans for monthly gatherings in an area closer to the city, but we still don’t have any money (other than the few bucks we have scrapped together selling lemonade on the corner and the few of us who are giving to this new found mission), Tiffany has just found a job, and our planting organization still hasn’t started kicking in the funds. What are we supposed to do with these people who have started coming? We can’t just stop and wait until we can pay rent. But God does what BIG God’s do and I meet this guy named Dorrien Hinsey from Compass Church. And you know if you’ve been following along recently that Compass is the church we have been meeting in for the past six months rent free thanks to Dorrien and Compass Church. Coincidence? Nope? There are no coincidences. Only a BIG God with BIG plans.
So for the past few months as we prepare to launch we have been looking for a place to call home for the next year or two. A place where we can have our big launch day at and really begin to invest into a community. Finding that place has been far more difficult than I could have ever imagined. Nothing was happening with the places we found and every potential location fell through because of cost, scheduling, or a thousand other reasons (mostly cost - who knew weekly rent on a school building could cost $1200/week!) And to make matters worse our funding from our plant organization had still not come through and our sponsoring church informed us they were pulling monthly support due to budget issues on their end. Coincidence? Nope? There are no coincidences. Only a BIG God with BIG plans.
So we waited patiently… and waited… and waited. Man is that hard! I felt like such a bad leader not having the funding set, not having the location set, and not knowing what was next, but I had some really great people in my life continuing to encourage and challenge me (us) to wait on God while moving forward. “God will show up.” they kept telling me. And I knew He would, after all he showed up in a living room in Pittsburgh and he showed up when we moved back to Ohio, certainly he would show up now… right? Oh… me of little faith.
God showed up.
Over the past few months we received a large (at least for us) check from people who are amazing and felt called to give to what is happening, our organizational funding finally started to kick in (woohoo!), and this past week God delivered an amazing location. Through a serious of crazy events I found out about a place in our area that was not far from where we have been meeting at Compass that would be incredible. I’ll have to share the whole story behind the place in another post, but to make it short, we are signing a lease this week with the Underground (check it out). A concert venue in our area that is completely plug and play with all the sound, lights, video, seating, tables, space, a church plant could ever need. We are able to rent the space and the equipment for a fraction of what it would cost us in some other places. Not to mention it is a place everyone knows that is right off of one of our major highways with a large digital sign facing the highway. And the best part is the guys who run the Underground are 100% awesome, Kingdom-minded, followers of Jesus who are as excited about this partnership as we are. God had directed us to the right location, at the right time. with the right people… Coincidence? Nope? There are no coincidences. Only a BIG God with BIG plans.
If you would like to get involved with Red Door financially we would truly value your partnership in this mission. Giving is easy to do and only takes a few minutes + All your giving is tax-deductible. Bonus! Give to Red Door
